Sex toy sales skyrocket during the Covid-19 pandemic

Sales of sex toys boomed as millions of people around the world were affected by the blockade orders, restricting travel because of Covid-19 .

Manufacturer WOW (Germany) said that global sales have tripled in 2020 and the most popular product is a women's type called "Womanizer".

Besides, the company LELO (Sweden) said that sales of sex toys increased by 10% in 2020.

A report by German market research firm Statista predicts that the global sex toy market will nearly double from $28.6 billion to $52.7 billion between 2019 and 2026, according to AFP.

"This trend is not only a discouragement because of the blockade order, but also reflects the fact that Western society has entered an era where buying a sex toy is no longer taboo," expert Christophe Manceau of market research firm Kantar (UK).

French sexologist Virginie Girod adds that sex toys have been "completely democratized".

In an interview with AFP, a 29-year-old single girl named Sofia in Paris (France) said she had overcome the "psychological barrier" to sex toys since the first Covid-19 blockade order . was first issued in March 2020.

Experts say that sex, once seen as taboo in the media, is slowly being "normalized" in the digital age in most Western countries and many parts of the world. .

For example, podcast programs, Youtube channels openly explore every nook and cranny of sexual matters. This contributes to changing the perception of many people about sex toys , according to experts.
