USA represents the largest share of sales in the world market

Not all sectors lost their lust during the pandemic. While social isolation made dating impossible, the market for erotic products profited from the loneliness of singles (and the boredom of married people).

In 2020 alone, the sexual pleasure products sector was worth $78 billion, according to data from Allied Market Research. The projection is that the area will grow 5% per year until 2027. In Brazil, the estimated value of sales was R$ 2 billion, according to a survey by Abeme (Brazilian Association of Companies in the Erotic and Sensual Market).

In the Brazilian virtual market alone, Dona Coelha, a sex shop aimed at the female audience that has been operating online since 2011, recorded a sales increase of 475% in 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year.

A third of sexual product purchases in 2020 were made online. In the previous year, the rate was around 25%. Half of the world's purchases were made by North Americans. In the US, 43% of couples used sex toys during confinement.

Heterosexual men were the main consumers, representing 45% of purchases. Straight women make up 40% of the audience and LGBT+ people were 15% of shoppers.
