For sex toys, international safety standards have been introduced. Turns out they didn't exist before!

However, this does not apply to lubricants, oils and sprays.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed safety standards for sex toys, writes Vice. The 16-page document contains product design and safety requirements. True, the manufacturers themselves will decide whether to pass the assessment or not. But buyers will be able to check the availability of a safety certificate even before buying a toy.

The promotion of standards for sex toys was started by Swedish surgeon Martin Dahlberg in 2018. Then the doctor noticed that in 40 percent of cases of complaints of patients about stuck objects in the body, the culprits were sex toys. It spoke of their insecurity.

Some ISO Sex Toy Safety Standards

The temperature of toys with heating elements should not exceed 47.7 degrees. Otherwise, the user may be burned.

Plugs, balls and other items intended to penetrate physiological openings must be of a strong design so as not to remain in the body.

The owner of a device that binds parts of the body (chastity belt, erection ring) should be able to remove it with pliers. There should be no need to use power tools.

A device that comes into direct contact with the genitals and other bodily orifices must be free of sharp edges and burrs. It can only be absolutely smooth.

Compliance with ISO standards is voluntary. However, manufacturers can use the certificate as a competitive advantage in the industry.
