Innovation and Technology in the sex toy industry

Because the sexual need contained by the pandemic corresponded to the technological progress of erotic articles, which allowed these needs to be given wings. And this was not just a happy coincidence, because for a few years now, sex-related technology has been at the forefront. An example of this were the two awards given to Satisfyer in the innovation category at the world's largest technology fair – the Consumer Electronics Show.

According to Público newspaper , this was not, in fact, the first time that the industry responsible for products such as vibrators won an innovation award at this event. In 2019, the Osé vibrator, by the company Lora DiCarlo, had won the award, but it had been revoked for being “immoral, obscene, indecent or profane”. However, progress conquered obscurity and the award would eventually return to the company's founder months later.

An example of technology allied to the sex toys market is the teledildônico Lush 2, a product in this case designed for the female audience.

According to specialist Pedro Correia, manager of the sex shop in Lisbon that sells sex toys for men and women, Vibrolandia, this is a highly sought after product, which places it at the top of the list in the technological segment.

“It is a vibrator – or egg – introduced into the woman, with pre-assembled vibration schemes, which can be controlled by someone from a distance, through the computer, cell phone (or smartwatch)”, says the entrepreneur about the product.

Interestingly, in its most current version, this toy is equipped with a stronger motor. If connected to the internet, there is – literally – no limit to its use. This means that in full lockdown it was possible to use this toy. They are sex toys like Lush 2, and others using cutting-edge technology that, in the context of a pandemic, have valued the market for sex toys, vibrators, etc.
